The author takes first the evidence for supposing that Christ, in teaching the disciples the Prayer - so far as possible - to a share in his own prayer-life. Secondly, he relates the Prayer to the teaching of Christ, explaining the precise meaning which the disciples came to attach to its words and phrases. Thirdly, he discusses the important question of how far the Lord's Prayer affected the minds and character of the disciples and the Primitive Church, and how far it contributed to their understanding of the Gospel.
