Title: The Ballet Called Giselle
Description: London, C.W. Beaumont. 1944, First Edition. Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Silver title on mauve cloth boards which have age darkening to spine and to portions of boards but no wear. Internally very clean, tight and unmarked. 140 pages. 47 illustrations. Illustrated endpapers. The present work is the first attempt, certainly in England, to study the evolution of a ballet from conception to realisation, and to follow it through its main phases of production. The author endeavours to view the ballet from both sides of the curtain, to consider and resolve some of the problems that confront both interpreters and producer, and to explain in detail to the spectator the action of the ballet. Giselle was first produced at the Opera, Paris in 1841 and remains the supreme achievement of the Romantic Ballet. 1. Good/No Jacket.
