Title: The World Is All Islands
Description: London, Travel Book Club. 1958. Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A near Fine unmarked copy (Fine apart from minor indentations to fore edge and one to spine) with near Very Good dustjacket. 292 pages. 1 map. Translated from the Danish by F. H. Lyon. Carl Nielsen and two other amateur sailors made plans to sail 36,000 miles round the world. The Nordkaperen, a two-masted schooner built in 1905, had to be stripped down to the keel because of wood-rot and rust. Hardly out of sight of the Danish coast, they found themselves being driven hrough a mine-field, while the engine refused to start. And so it continued throughout the voyage, wherever the three Danes went they seemed to have an infinite capacity for attracting the most exciting adventures. In mid-ocean they were struck again and again by gales and heavy seas. The rigging snapped, the sails were torn and in one frightening storm the boom cracked. Several times they found themselves aground on coral reefs. A1E. Near Fine/Very Good.
