When the author read an advertisement in a New York literary weekly inviting recruits for an expedition into America's impressive canyon country, she answered it, reasoning that 64 is the right age for adventure, and whilst many of her age may have harboured similar thoughts she acted on her impulse. So it was she found herself the solitary woman in a party of seven boatmen and photographers on a 60 day voyage by rubber raft down the Green and Colorado rivers, encountering dangers, hazards and discomforts, in waters seldo navigated by man.
