Author: FENTON, J.C. Title: Preaching the Cross - the Passion and Resurrection According to St. Mark
Description: London, SPCK. 1958, First Edition. Soft Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A near Fine unmarked copy. 80 pages. These lectures were originally given in Passiontide at St. Boniface College, Warminster, to the final year theological students of King's College, London. In many parish churches the Three Hours Service on Good Friday is based upon 'The Seven Words from the Cross', the one saying recorded in Mark and Matthew, the three in Luke, and the three in John being taken as the basis for a series of devotional addresses. The author points out that this method implies that the three main accounts of the Passion each give part of the story and need to be put together to obtain a more complete record of the events. He suggests that a more satisfactory way to conduct a service would be to follow one Gospel alone, and this is what he gives here in the Marcan account. NOT AN EX LIBRARY COPY R8. Very Good/No Jacket.
