Title: A Noodle's Orations
Description: Cape Town, Howard B. Timmins. 1948, First Edition. Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. SIGNED AND DEDICATED BY AUTHOR on front pastedown 'To 'P.P.' Lady Charles with the author's best wishes for Christmas 1948'. Gilt title on blue cloth boards which have some fading and a mark to front. Internally very clean, tight and unmarked. Pages are deckle edged. Dustjacket has age darkening, some marks and a closed tear and is not price clipped. Frontispiece caricature by Dorelle. Foreword by Horace Flather (editor of The Star and Cape Argus). Cecil James Sibbett was a South African Naturalist, President of the South African Botanical Society, a politician, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the South African National Gallery. In this book he amusingly writes of cliches, and as Horace Flather states 'in the junkpile of dusty discards that Mr. Sibbett has assembled are to be found phrases of rare beauty, literary gems that still sparkle in their original setting'. 20. Very Good/Good. Signed by Author.
