This discovery, transfer RNA, was the great scientific achievement of the author at Harvard, but it was not Mahlon's only achievement. He later came to head and carry forward the research of the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology, a remarkable institution founded by his father, where earlier the birth control pill was developed, the other twin subject of the book.
