Title: My Wounded Heart - the Life of LILLI Jahn 1900-1944
Description: London, Bloomsbury. 2004, First Edition. (ISBN: 0747570469). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition, First Printing. A Very Good + unmarked copy with dustjacket which has some wear to top edge, some light marks to front and back and is not price clipped. Translated from the German by John Brownjohn. A powerful, inspiring and heart rending book and a tribute to an ordinary woman of extraordinary courage, and essential to our understanding of the reality of Hitler's Germany. Lilli Jahn was prolific letter writer who studied medicine at Cologne, who wooed and won her protestant and fellow medical student, Ernest Jahn, by letter and in 1926 they married but in 1933, when Hitler took power, everything changed. Her husband was put under pressure from local Nazis to separate and then divorce her, which he eventually did, leaving Lilli and her five children unprotected. She was arrested and sent to Breitenau labour camp, angry, but she could still write to her children and these letters survive. She died at Auschwitz in June 1944. Many photographs and maps and copies of documents. B2D. Very Good/Good.
