Title page with large woodcut town view (with an early picture of rope-making) within a woodcut border. In the upper margin a cross printed in red and representing the arms of Alessandria della Paglia. With nice pictorial initials. Bound in half vellum, boards covered with blue marbled paper. Very fine copy notwithstanding some tiny wormholes in some pages at the lower margin. This is the rare first edition of the statutes of the Piemontese city of Alessandria ( della Paglia ). USTC 808599. Provenance. This is the copy from the library of Albert Ehrman who created the Broxbourne Library. His armorial bookplate '' Pro Viribus Summis Contendo'' tipped on to the first paste down. The bookplate of the ''Bibliotheca Broxbourniana'' tipped on to the last paste down. The aim of the library was to collect from every important European city a copy of the first book printed there. Part of the collection was auctioned by Sotheby's in 1977.. .
