Description: .: Antverpiae, ( Antwerpen ), Ex Officina Ioannis Meursi, 1636, elephant folio, 51 x 37 cm, title + engraved title + portrait of king Philip + (6)nn pp + portrait of Ferdinand + 68 pp + (3) nn pp (index) + (1)(bl) + 41(of 42) engraved plates. Missing is plate 32. Bound in contemporary full vellum, with as supra libro the arms of the town of Ghendt (S.P.Q.G.). Binding seriously soiled and with some warping. Apart from the missing plate the book has also some serious shortcomings. The first 12 leaves and the last 12 leaves have a large water stain in the upper corner. Most of the leaves have stains and thumbing marks. The title page is partially mounted and re-inforced at the back with strips of paper . Pages 41/42 and 43/44 have a marginal tear repaired. Plate 9 (folding) with a marginal tear repaired, plate 34 is loosely inserted and has frayed margins, the outer margin of plate 36 has been cut away up to the image. The book has been printed on very heavy paper which makes that apart from soiling and water staining most of the text and plates are still in good condition. Due to the size of the leaves all are mounted in the binding. The title engraving is designed by Rubens and engraved by Galle. (See Landwehr. Spledid ceremonies pp. 103). .
