Description: .: 2. S.l. (Antwerpen ?), manuscript on paper, written in ink, undated, (ca. 1778-1779), in-folio, 4 pp ( last 3 pp blank) , written in French, very neat handwriting. (first page a bit dustsoiled). Detailed business plan with organisational instructions consisting of 5 points concerning the purchase of a French ship ( the Turgot ) and sending it to Mahé and further to China. On the return voyage it would call at Trieste but this would be a simulated call. The final destination would be Bruges where the market for tea and Nankin silk is excellent. Proli was obliged to act with these disguised destinations because of great international opposition to his India trade .Provenance; from the archives of Charles de Proli ; photostat of a typed letter from 23 May 1945 refers to Theophile Smekens who was still occupied with Proli's bancruptcy in the late 19th c.
