Description: .: Douai, Balthazar Bellère, 1632, in-32°, 106 x 50 mm, (16)nn pp + 589 pp + (10)nn pp (index) + (1)bl. (complete). Bound in contemporary vellum, traces of ties. Binding a bit soiled and with traces of use, paste down leaves loose, title page dustsoiled and with a contemporary manuscript ex-libris in fading ink. The first edition of Sa's aphorisms ( 1595) was put on the Roman Catholic Index of forbidden books in 1603. This edition was expurgated by the Italian priest Andrea Vittorelli..
