Description: Francofurti ( Frankfurt ) , apud Ioannem Wechelum & Petrum Fischerum consortes, 1590, in-4°, 19 x 12 cm, (8nn pp + 1221 pp + (83) nn pp (complete). Title printed in red and black, with a wood engraved printer's mark. Bound in half vellum, boards covered with marbled paper. Title page with a large cut out which has been repaired, no loss of text. With the usual stains and fingermarks. On the whole still an acceptable copy. Tipped on to verso of the title is the engraved ex-libris of Finck Earl of Wichelsea & Nottingham . In probably his own handwriting he has noted on the title page that he bought this book in Stockholm in 1729. This book is the main work of Jean Bodin and constitutes the first modern attempt to construct a system of political science. The sixth book deals mainly with economical topics. This is the first Latin edition outside the French speaking territory. It is the 3rd Latin edition. (See Crahay, Isaac , Lenger.
