Description: .: 15. Lyon, Jean Crespin , 1535, in-8°, (64)nn pp + cclxxxiiii lvs + cxxi lvs + (30)nn pp (complete). Leaf D8 , page oo8v and rrr8v blank, as published. Title printed in red and black with woodcut ornament and vignet. Bound in contemporary overlapping vellum with traces of ties. Manuscript title in large letters on top edge and spine. Some small loss of vellum at one of the edges. Some small wormholes in the first paste down, also in the margin of the title and in the last leaf (rrr8) which has been pasted down to the back cover (rrr8v = blank). Only the worming in leaf rrr8 leads to some loss of letters . Some old markings in ink at a few pages. Still a very good copy. USTC N° 146842. Provenance. With the manuscript ex-libris on the title page of Brunamonte De Rubeis de Assisio. The name returns a second time on the title with the addition ''nunc ....Josephi sui primogenitore''. The name returns a third time at the end of the book (on pp. rrr8r). In January 1560 Brunamonte de Rubeis de Assisio is mentioned as gubernator ( governor) of the town of Norcia (Nursia) in the province of Perugia which belonged to the Papal States. The Castellina, built by Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola in 1555-1563, residence of the gubernator, still stands. (See C.Weber - Legati e governatori dello Stato pontificio 1550 - 1809, page 311). The author Bartolomeo Cipolla was professor of law at Padua University and is considered as one of the greatest Italian Jurists of the 15th c. He died ca. 1477. .
