Title: Traité Des Dispenses Divisé En Deux Parties ; Dont la première comprend ; Les Règles & les Principes generaux des Dispenses. Et l'Autre; Est un application des ces Regles& de ces principes aux Dispenses de Mariage./ (sic)/.
Description: .: 6. Cologne, ( Rotterdam ? ) , Chez Nicolas Schouten, ( R. Leers ), 1687, in-12°, 128 x 72 mm , (24) nn pp + 252 pp. Bound in contemporary full leather, raised gilt spine. With an engraved armorial ex-libris pasted on the inside of the front cover '' Alexandre Jean Mignot, abbé de Scelleries....''. Fine copy. Fictitious place of imprint which was used by R. Leers who was active in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Our copy is identical with Amsterdam U.L. ( record number 291298060 ) in that it does not mention the name of the author on the title page or anywhere else. The copy in Göttingen U.L. has a different title page to which is added in print '' Composé en Latin & soutenu en forme de Theses , par Mr. Loyens Doct. & Profess. Primaire ès Droits en l'Université de Louvain''. (VD 17 7;712270 R) The original text was published in Latin '' Repetitio theoretica-practica de dispesationibus...'', in Louvain, 1685. Both records ( U.L.Amsterdam ; U.L. Göttingen) wrongly attribute the text to Hubert Loyens, in fact the elder brother of the real author Hendrik Loyens. See René Dekkers pp. 104. (canon law; matrimony;dispensation;fictitious imprint;louvain;university;roman catholic religion). The first owner of this book Alexandre Jean Mignot (1725-1791) was the abbot of the Seillières abbey at Romilly-sur -Seine. He is famous as being the nephew of Voltaire and for arranging the burial of Voltaire (who died in Paris) on the abbey grounds. .
