Palaeopoli Advaticorum ( fictitious = Antwerpen ) , apud Alexandrum Verheyden ( fictitious = Jan Plantin Moretus ), 1606, in-4°, 25 x 17,5 cm, title with engraved vignette + (22) nn pp + 427 pp + (5)nn pp ( table), bound in contemporary full velum with green silk ties, edges painted red. With a gilt supralibro of a bisschop on the front cover. [W.E.W.] The same coat of arms as the supralibro is tipped in as an engraved ex-libris on the first paste down ; with the words '' Effren ; Meternich ; Merade ; Ketzgen '' binding dust soiled, one corner of blank fly leaf missing, still a good/fine copy in an interesting unidentified armorial binding. This is the second enlarged edition ( added the 4th book) of Scribani's vehement defense of the Jesuit order against the Calvinist attacks, especially in France. The book brought great controversy in France, also at the court of King Henry IV and this second edition followed already one year after the first.
