History with balance sheets of the Flemish ( Belgian ) socialist co-operative union of cotton weaving and spinning mills established in and around Ghendt in 1904. The companies involved were [1] N.V. Vereenigde Spinnerijen en Weverijen. [2] N.V. Cotonnière de Braine-le-Château. [3] N.V. Filsoietis. [4] N.V. Textile de Flandres. [5] N.V. Tissage et Teinturerie d'Alost . [6] N.V. Tissage de Gentbrugge. [7] N.V. Fabrique de Bonneterie V. Ameye. This union '' de N.V. Vereenigde Spin-en Weverijen '' was the first initiative in Belgium by the socialist movement to acquire a co-operative industrial production system. The driving force was Edward ( Edouard ) Anseele. The whole co-operative system collapsed in 1934 when the socialist bank which financed the company (B.B.A. = Belgische Bank van de Arbeid) got into difficulties mainly because it did long term financing with short term deposits (see NBW Vol. XIII pp. 37-39 - Anseele).. .
