Bound in old vellum, ex-library with a single small 19th century stamp on the first fly leaf (unreadable). Title with four letters of the first line heightened in yellow. Also a large manuscript note pertaining to this this publication in a 18th century (?) hand. A very fine copy. Adams H1003. USTC 671492. The author (Montfort 1500 - Naarden 1574) studied at the Collegium Trilingue at Leuven University and became a catholic priest in Utrecht. His sympathy for the Reformation earned him the nickname '' de Luyterse Paap '' ( the Lutheran Papist). This is the rare first edition of his study on the history of the diocese of Utrecht and how it was incorporated by Charles V of Habsburg, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, into the Netherlands. A second edition in Latin was published nearly one hundred years later (in 1643 ). The first , apparently very poor translation into Dutch , was made by A.
