The original printed stiff wrapper has been tipped on to the boards (front, back and spine). Printed on violet coloured paper. With an engraved ex-libris on the first paste down (M. J. Girardin , Rouen). Binding rather soiled and worn, technically sound, interior with some foxing on some plates, but still fine/good. Eustache Hyacinthe Langlois (1777 - 1837) was one of the leading artistic figures in Rouen and played an important role in the preservation of mediaeval monuments and artefacts of the region. This book, published posthumously, testifies of his interest in mediaeval book art. The fine plates were all designed by the artist following mediaeval examples. .
