Bound in two uniform modern blue half cloth volumes, gilt title on smooth spine, half title and titles a bit dustsoiled but with the finely lithographed plates and the text leaves in near perfect condition. Thomas King, pupil of Pugin , settled as an architect and propagator of the neo gothic style in Bruges where he wrote a number of influential studies on gothic art and architecture. This work contains in all 200 engraved plates which depict in great detail fine examples of gothic architecture, all designs are measured and drawn to scale. This is the rare first English edition. In 1857 a French edition was published in Bruges. Later editions followed in the 1860's which an enhanced number of plates.
