London, s.e., 1856, 27.5 x 21 cm, frontsipiece + lvi + 230 + (6) pp, indexes, map (facing p. liii), ills., 20 pl. h/t of with 10 are lithos and 7 hand-colored, full maroon leather, raised spine, gilt lettering, front and back finely tooled, marbled endpapers, gilt and tooled edges. The first and last few pages are foxed. Binding with some small wear but still a fine copy. The book - describing hundreds of Kentish graves, Celtic and Anglo-Saxon, excavated by the Rev. Bryan Fausset, d. 1776 - though finished in 1773, was only published after a Liverpool jeweller and goldsmith, Joseph Mayer, bought the collection and the manuscript and had the journal printed. The 7 very fine hand-colored plates show Anglo-Saxon jewellery. .
