This is the second edition. The author, Jean-Joseph Gaume (1802 - 1879) was a French theologian. Still a nice binding although the spines are a bit discoloured and there is some slight wear at the extremities. (Jolie reliure contemporaine avec un supralibro de L'École de Pont-Levoy). .
