Adams S1091. USTC 144079. Bound in old vellum, extraordinary fine crisp copies. With the manuscript ex-libris of Alexandre Cyprien Marjoli (Luxembourg 1805), together with some manuscript notes on a fly-leaf. Interesting and very fine convolute of two pre-renaissance chronicles. The first text by Eusebius was written in Greek before 303 A.C. but did not survive. (see Catalogus Jan de Hondt). It was augmented by e.g. Matteo Palmieri de Florence , Prosper Aquitanus a.o. On page 155b you find the printed record of the invention of printing in the Western world by ''Ioane Guntenberg'' in the year 1457. The Sigisbert chronicle is here present in the first printed edition with the continuation up to 1210. Sigisbertus of Gembloux is characterised by Max Manitius (Geschichte der Lateinische Literatur) as one of the most versatile and important writers of the 11th century. His fame rests mainly on this book in which he set out to continue the Eusebius-Hieronymus chronicle. .
