Binding ; 17th century prize-binding of the Antwerp Augustine Gymnasium, full calf, gilt fillet on covers, on both covers the gilt arms of the college (43 x 36 mm) with the text; ''S.P.Q.A. Gymnasy Augustinianei Maec; Perp.'', traces of green silk ties, apart from some leather missing at the lower end of the spine; a well preserved binding. On the fly-leave is written; ''Ex Rhetorica ad Logicam Gradum facit Nonsca Petrus Bomberge Antverpiae in Lycceo Augustiniano, D(ie) XI Sept. 1696 J.G.R.''. Notwithstanding the defects mentionned a rare and well-preserved copy of a prize-binding. It is curious to note how an obviously used copy of an early 16th century book is donated as prize-book as late as 1696. The prize book was then over 170 years old ; and incomplete, lacking one leaf.. .
