Clarkson was surveyor to the famous engineer George Stephenson and some of his tales provide an absorbing insight into the development of the railways as well as local customs, bear baiting, punishments and the Luddites. Clarke was surgeon at Wakefield Prison. This is not a reprint of the second edition but a complete re-working of the text to incorporate Clarke's drawings for the first time. Near Fine.
