Dutch language compilation of 20 patriotic events and stories, glorifying dutch explorations and deeds from bygones, which include personal eroism and patriotism in the western world and Asia, also including some rather bombastic poems, of which three stories relating to events in the Dutch East Indies and one about the dutch trading settlement of Nagasaki, Japan. Sories about Batavia, pp. 60-69; Governor-General Van Imhoff and Paku Buwono III, challenged by Pangeran Mangku Nagoro, pp. 131-142; British attempt to take-over the dutch trading post at Deshima, Nagasaki Bay, Japan, July 1813 successfully obstructed by Hendrik Doeff, chromolithograph features a bird's eye view of the trading post and bay, pp. pp. 167-181; scenery of the Java-war, 1825-1830 by Diponegoro pp. 212-235. Contents illustrates author's pre-occupation with the Dutch East Indies in later life, published a long poem in 1884 on Java with as topic Diëng Mountain range. Very good crisp and clean copy in original and stunning publ. cloth, lithographs fresh and clean. Rare in such condition.
