Rather detailed dutch language historic description of Loevestain Castle, an important 17th century fortified dutch catsle covering the crossing of two main dutch rivers Maas and Waal, which includes a large section about the captivity of Hugo de Groot (Grotius), fabous lawyer, scientist and personality, imprisoned by command of the Stadtholder Maurits, Prince of Orange Nassau, cinluding his escape, orchestrated by his wife Maria van Reigersbergen, in a large wooden bookchest, 22 march 1621. Good to very good untrimmed and clean copy. (some tears in maps skilfully restored, front inner inge skilfully reinforced).
