Near end of 2nd vol. is written "At the time of writing (Autumn 1938) the record from England to Port Darwin is held by...etc.." which suggests it was probably published in 1939. Consulting editor J. Laurence Pritchard. No d./w. Volume 1 contains pages 1-560. Between pages 26 & 27 is a 2 page, folded colour plate, split on the fold almost to the top, repaired neatly with tape on the back, so tape isn't visible from the front. Between pages 180 & 181 is a folded chart of planes showing distinguishing marks of each country. Its split on the fold, both pages present & uncreased. Hundreds of b.& w. photographs, diagrams and drawings, and 8 full page colour plates. Cover is worn on sides of spine & edges. Volume 2 has the exact same blue binding, but on title page the publisher is Fleetway House. Pages 561-1088, including index to both volumes. Hundreds of b.& w. photographs, diagrams & drawings, and 7 plates in colour. On back of colour plate between pages 1044 & 1045 is a scribble, but it hasnt affected the colour plate. Previous owner's name & address on f.e.p. of both books. Slightly worn, small split on top of spine, another on bottom, slightly worn on corners. 11" x 8¼". The history of aviation throughout the world, from the pioneers up to the late 1930's, including the planes, designers, pilots, air forces etc. 1939
