Description: Lyon. France. 1846. Folio volume: 100 leaves of manuscript (with the last 25 blank) teaching a course on silk weaving. The volume measures 46 x 32 cm and is 3 cm thick. An illustrated guide to design and weaving silk, with schemas, charts and tables hand written in a neat hand in black ink. Dozens of hand coloured designs, some large and fold-out, and finished silk samples glued in. Marbled paper on the boards with grey paper covered spine, which has chipping and damage but the binding has done its job of protecting the contents. A particularly impressive volume.
