The book was written to serve as a guide for those intending to visit Africa to shoot game at a time when hunters' weapons were primitive. Most hunting was then done on horseback but he hunted on foot. Contains separate chapters on buffalo, rhinoceros, eland, elephant, lions, leopards, hunting with dogs, anecdotes of antelopes, and game birds.
