The South Africa species of the genus Ceramius Latreille are fairl well known, at least from a taxonomic aspect, having in recent years been studied by Richards (1962) and by Gess (1965 and 1968). Nevertheless, Ceramius material in the Albany Museum, in the private collection of Mr. H. N. Empey and in the collections made in South Africa by Dr. J. Rozen (1965 and 1968) and by Dr. and Mrs. H. Townes (1970), combined with collecting and field observations by the author and by Mr. J. G. H. Londt, has brought to light some interesting additional information.
