Soft to head & tail of dulled spine, pages toned, some foxing, however this is a sound copy having an excellent general appearance with bright blue boards, all plates and fold-outs are present, some pages unopened. VG condition. Bookplate of J.P. Fitzpatrick to front pastedown. Sir Percy Fitzpatrick was the author of the quintessential South African children's book 'Jock Of The Bushveld' as well as 'The Transvaal From Within'. He was appointed as the secretary of the Johannesburg Reform Committee in 1895. Percy FitzPatrick, was also a politician, mining financier and a pioneer of the South African fruit industry. As a politician, he defended British Imperial interests before and during the Anglo-Boer War. Notably he was responsible for the creation of the two-minute silence observed on Armistice Day.
