She saved the family coal business from bankruptcy and used the profits to open businesses including a bank and an insurance company. Hirooka was one of the founders of a women's university to which she devoted much time and money. She opened a Society for the Study of Culture which was also a success. - Curtis, Life and Light for Woman, Vol. 49, p. 181-84. Green cloth binding, gilt lettering to front cover. Two illustrations, including portrait. Spine ends worn, front cover with minor stains, pages age-toned. Tight and clean throughout. Very good+ .
