Light browning moreso to plates, tartan, contemporary red calf, intricate gilt tooling with blind fillet to boards, minor soiling and wear, leading corner to vol. 1. bumped and creased, gilt tooling with gilt lettered labels to spines faded and sl. rubbed with some darkening to heads, a.e.g. ¶ Cordier 80-81; Lust 363; Allom copied Chinese drawings from Sir George Thomas Staunton's collection and also made use of amateur sketches made on the spot by Captain Stoddard of the Royal Navy... [et. al], who during the Opium War, depicted in watercolours many places in the interior of China new to Western eyes (Löwendahl 986). ODNB ‘... His [above work] with a letterpress by G. N.
