Description: London: Printed by Rodwell and Martin ..., 1819. 1st Ed. 3 vols. 4to. 3 folding maps (1 silked to verso) [only of 4], 73 plates including 18 folding [only of 82]. 1 folding plate with loss to fold and repaired to verso, Vol 2 with pp.251-4 with loss to edges silked and sm. hole to text of pp.237-8 due to adhesion with facing plate; all volumes with significant mainly marginal worming (also affecting plates), some browning, some mainly marginal water staining to some plates, modern e.ps., rebound in modern marbled half leather with marbled boards, upper joints rubbed with some cracking, gilt lettered label to spines. ¶ Scarce. Borba de Moraes II, p.642; Ghani p.291; not in Atabey or Blackmer. Sir William Ouseley (1769-1842) went to Persia as secretary to his brother Sir Gore Ouseley the ambassador in 1810. The places he visited and describes include Rio de Janeiro, Ceylon, the Malabar coast, Bombay, the Persian Gulf and Bushire, Shiraz, Fasa Darab, Persepolis, Isfahan, Tehran, Constantinople and Smyrna.
