Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ The 2nd ( first Parisien ) edition, revised & corrected, of the memoirs of Victoire de Donnissan de La Rochejaquelein [ 1772 - 1857 ] which detail her misfortunes and her part in the Vendée wars. They give a remarkable picture of the war and the fortunes of the Royalists. Fleeing France in 1797, a widow, she was able to return in 1799 & regain her estates. After marrying again in 1802, she was again involved in the Royalist movement, when her husband attempted to bring about another Vendan rising for Louis XVIII.
