It is commonly known as the Tempio Malatestiano ( Malatesta Temple ) after Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, who commissioned its reconstruction by the famous Renaissance theorist and architect Leon Battista Alberti around 1450. This book remains the standard monograph on the building.
