Description: Heinemann, 1927, 1st edition, 2nd impression. Cloth, G. [viii]+118pp, b/w frontis & 11 b/w plates by the author, scattered foxing to the page margins, cloth unevenly sunned from the original purple to a sandy grey, cloth rubbed at the corners. Part of one of the dustjaket flaps is laid in. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ The second printing of Heinemann's British edition of Gibran's work which had first been published in 1923 by Alfred Knopf of New York ( an ambitious first print run of 2,000 copies of which Knopf sold 1,159 ). The hugely influential collection of 26 prose poetry fables have remained in print ever since. The fables are philosophical musings on life & the human condition. Khalil Gibran [ 1883 - 1931 ]. Lebanese American writer, poet and visual artist, influenced by the work of William Blake.
