Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ An early reprint of the novel which was to bring fame to Bulwer Lytton, a story of some wit concerning the convoluted escapades of a Georgian Dandy. A popular author in his day the unfortunate Bulwer Lytton is today best remembered for being the inspiration of the annual Bulwer Lytton fiction contest thanks to the opening lines of 'Paul Clifford' - 'It was a dark and stormy night'. It is perhaps fair to note that along with awkward prose he also coined the phrase 'the pen is mightier than the sword'. NCBEL4 1146.
