Binders ticket of Pettigrew & Ouiton stating that book was bound for the Royal College of Surgeons on the pastedown. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ Much reprinted work on the diseases of the bones & joints by Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie, [ 1783 - 1862 ] widely regarded as his most important & finest work. The work led to the adoption of attitudes which favoured remedial work as opposed to amputation and thus saved the limbs of many patients. 'Brodies best work. It includes [a] description of hysterical pseudo-fracture of the spine and the first clinical description of ankylosing spondylitis. ( Garrison & Morton 4311 ).
