The second on Chronic lumbar abscesses. John Abernethy [ 1764 - 1831 ] surgeon & medical practitioner, who spent much of his career at St Bart's as a surgeon & lecturer. His lectures were popular 'in large part due to the robust humour and extravagant histrionics which he brought to the classroom'. [ODNB]. He authored several papers of 'Surgical Observations', and was inclined to attribute every ailment to a disorder of the digestive system.
