Full contemporary calf, VG. xxiv+408pp, engraved frontis, gilt dentelles & attractive gilt tooling to the spine, leather rubbed along the edges, offsetting to the title from the frontis, first blank pulled from the gutter a little, ink Ex Libris stamp to the endpaper, but still a nice copy. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ The poetical works of the precocious & talented, but now forgotten Henry Kirke White [ 1785 - 1806 ] who died of overwork whilst studying at Cambridge University. The son of a Nottingham Butcher, he had shown much academic promise & his first volume of poems had attracted the mentorship of Robert Southey. This volume, edited from White's papers after his death by Southey, contains an account of White's brief life, his letters, along with his prose & poetical works.
