[ii]+3-645+[i]pp, small 8vo [ 5 inches tall x 3.25 inches wide ] edition, signatures running A-Ss2, solidly bound in full vellum with a black lettering piece, lacks the initial endpaper, but with the final blank, printers colophon on the final leaf dated 1608, Ex Libris Joseph South, British Consul at Venice with his partly obscured armorial bookplate, slight ex library evidence with partly erased accession number to the base of the spine & ink numbers to the verso of the title, paper evenly yellowed with the occasional scorch mark & ink marginalia, small worm track to signatures I-I8 which just catch the signature itself on a few leaves, a nice copy. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ First volume [ of two ] of the Speeches of the Roman statesman & consul Marcus Tullius Cicero [ 106 BC - 43 BC ]. This volume contains Pro Quinctio, Pro Roscio Amerino, Pro Q Roscio Comoedo, Divinatio in Caecilium, In Verrem, Pro Fonteio & Pro Caecina. The text is that of the French Classicist Denis Lambin [ 1520 - 1572 ] which was first published in 1566. Claude Morillon, French publisher & printer who was active 1600 - 1620.
