Description: Blackwood's , 1903, reprint. Quarter morocco over buckram, VG. 209-238pp, finely bound with marbled endpapers, cloth a little grubby, Gaelic Armorial bookplate on the endpaper, a nice copy. An offprint from a volume of the 'Tales From Blackwood'. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ The original appearance of the story had been in Blackwood's Magazine in September 1869. The story, written by a retired Army Officer, tells of a Scottish Volunteer unit. The author using the story to express his thinking that rural Scotland would be better off if British military discipline were 'adopted' by the locals.
