Described by the publishers as 'a vivid eye-witness account by a surgeon in the German Army Medical Service who commanded a horse-drawn front-line operating theatre' (that is, on the Russian front during the campaigns between 1941 and1945). Red-brown cloth-covered boards, red and black dustjacket, 229 pages, folding map bound in at rear. Condition: Dustjacket (price clipped) rubbed and worn; reinforcement to verso, but this is not visible from the outside. Boards a little bumped. Obituary of author (newspaper cutting) pasted to front pastedown, with offsetting to front free end paper facing. Brief pencil note to front pastedown. Pages clean and bright, and fold-out map to rear in excellent condition. Spotting/foxing to top external page edges. Good.
