Title: A Large Description of Galloway, by Andrew Smyson, Minister of Kirkinner, M. Dc. LXXX. IV. With an Appendix Containing Original Papers, from the Sibbald and Macfarlane Mss.
Description: W and C Tait, 1823. Hardcover. Original copy of this uncommon work. xvi + 194p. The book is clean and tight and bound in half leather with marbled boards and raised bands on the spine with gilt titling. Bookplate of George R Alexander on the front pastedown and an owners label Andrew M'Dowall on the fep; also a blind address stamp on fep -Riverslea, Kirkcudbright. However the book is enhanced (or reduced as you may see it ) by a number of coats of arms, and small engravings which have been meticulously pasted on blank pages and on blank parts of pages at end of chapters etc. There is a newspaper clipping about Loch Dee pasted over the blank before the rear end paper. Clearly a much-cherished copy - possibly by Andrew M' Dowall. The boards rubbed at the edges and corners, but it remains a very good collectable or presentable copy. A little foxing of the endpapers only. Apparently limited to 250 copies only. See scans and email for more. . Very Good
