Title: A Doctor in the Wilderness
Description: Pioneer Associates (Graphic) Ltd, 2001. Soft Cover. Diet and nutrition are now constant subjects of debate among the population at large. Doctor Yellowlees views these issues from his home in the Highlands of Scotland, one of the `wildernesses' of his book, where for many years he has practised as a family doctor. During that time he was able to form dis¬tinctive opinions on the role of diet in the causation and prevention of illness, based on observation of his patients. The author's advocacy of a diet rich in natural, unrefined foodstuffs has not, however, been easy. Claim has been met with counter-claim, to create a further wilderness of confusion. Dr Yellowlees is nonetheless firm in his support of a dietary approach pioneered earlier this century by such people as McCarrison, Cleave and Eve Balfour. In 1960, he met and was greatly influenced by the late Surgeon Capt. T. L. Cleave, whose unique research had revealed the crucial role of white flour and refined sugar in the cause of modern diseases, including diabetes and coronary thrombosis. For the last thirty-three years as a GP, organic gardener, writer and lecturer, he has championed the prevention of disease by sound nutrition and in A Doctor in the Wilderness he presents a persuasive, intelligible and detailed argument in defence of his thesis. Since retiring in 1981, Dr. Yellowlees, having trained as a potter, works a small Pottery in Aberfeldy. He and his wife Sonia, in cooperation with, and guided by Roger and Merril Sylvester, created and ran the Aberfeldy Art Gallery from 1982 until 1998 when it was bought by artist Steven Proudfoot .First printed in 1993 this later reprint is signed by the author below a gift inscription dated November 2006. 229p No other marks or signatures.
