It commemerates the ascent of Ben Nevis by an Edinburgh car dealer, Henry Alexander, in 1911. At the centenary in 2011 75 Model T cars came to Fort William and one was carried by 77 stalwarts to the summit of Ben Nevis, assembled, photographed and dissasembled before being carried back to Fort William. Ther car was then on display in the West Highland Museum where its prescence lead to the vision of having cast a full size replica of Henry Alexander in his model T at the spot where he left for Ben Nevis in 1911.
