Marginal note in pencil adjacent to reference to Robert the Bruce and pencil dates inscribed under some plates. Pilkington Jackson designed the iconic statue of Robert the Bruce in Stirling in 1964 when he was aged 76. It is possible that these sketches were in preparation for this or an earlier work.
