Brady it was utterly impossible" with the eyes of the world upon me as they are today. But after a friend o Brady interceded, Lee changed his mind and let Brady photograph him. Later the last painting from life of Lee done by the colorful Swiss artist Frank Bucher asked Lee to dress in his Confederate uniform but he refused saying , "I am a soldier no longer" and allowed Bucher to paint him. A later photo shows a much aged Lee from the Bucher painting. Jotting on corner of back of front cover, some edge wear.
